Georgian director Mariam Khatchvani's award-winning feature Dede is in the shortlist of an anniversary edition of the Cannes Film Meetings, a competition featuring prized films for two awards granted by celebrated film professionals.

Selected among eight works distinguished at international festivals throughout this year, Dede will be judged by experts including screenwriter and actor Caroline Deruas, director Bob Swaim and actor Loup-Denis Elion.

They will gather from November 20-26 to pick winners for two prizes within the 30th edition of the Meetings.

Khatchvani's award-winning film was picked for the selection following its screening at the Mediterranean Film Festival in Montpellier last month.

Dede was also awarded the Special Jury Prize for the East of the West competition section at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and was unveiled as part of the shortlist for this year's Asia Pacific Screen Awards.

The feature follows Dina, a young woman in Georgia’s remote, mountainous Svaneti province, whose grandfather has agreed for her to be married to a young man coming back to the village from war. Dina however falls in love with another warrior returning from the conflict.

The Cannes Film Meetings shortlist also features prize-winners of the Locarno Film Festival (Wajib by Annemarie Jacir) and Venice Film Festival (The Insult by Ziad Doueiri and Custody by Xavier Legrand).
